The Reform Pledge

Towards a more Efficient, Transparent, and Accountable European Parliament

The Campaign for Parliament Reform (CPR) is composed of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from across the political spectrum and from almost every EU Member State, who share the belief that the European Parliament is in urgent need of internal reform if it is to regain its credibility with voters. Although Members of CPR will campaign on different policy platforms in this year's European elections, they all agree that reform of the European Parliament is a prerequisite to achieving their different policy aims. CPR therefore calls on all candidates to take the Reform Pledge set out below, making clear to voters their commitment to creating a more efficient, more transparent and more accountable European Parliament.

As Member of the European Parliament I pledge to work for
  • Greater Efficiency, by demanding an end to the European Parliament's three working places arrangement, and giving it a single seat - in Brussels;

  • Enhanced Transparency, through reform of the system of expenses, including the reimbursement of travel expenses only on the basis of costs actually incurred;

  • Improved Accountability, through the introduction of a strengthened code of conduct setting out MEPs' rights and responsibilities, and through further reform of Parliament's Rules of Procedure

Upon signing of the pledge, CPR will provide you with other informational and campaign materials, a color version of the pledge, lapel pins, and will list your name on our website.
